This partnership stands out as India is still considered an early emerging market in the gambling industry.
The gambling legislation in the country varies across states, with some areas having more clarity than others.
In general, gambling has been restricted since the Public Gambling Act of 1867, which prohibited the operation of gambling establishments.
Despite these limitations, states like Goa, Daman, and Sikkim have permitted casinos within their jurisdictions.
When it comes to online gambling, there are no federal laws prohibiting it, though some states have imposed restrictions due to concerns about illegal activities.
Indian laws distinguish between games of skill and games of chance, with certain verticals like lottery and horseracing facing fewer restrictions.
Last year, as the popularity of gambling increased in India, the government proposed a 28% goods and service tax on online gaming, horseracing, and casinos.
This led to some companies, such as Super Group, withdrawing from the market.
In response to the growing gambling industry, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India initiated a nationwide ban on gambling advertisements towards the end of summer.
